(I'm a bit late to this show) However, our favorate 2-player games also include co-op games: Lord of the Rings and Defenders of the Realm, to be specific. And we are eagerly anticipating the release of the new Star Trek Expeditions co-op. Other 2-player games we enjoy include Dominion, Stone Age and Carcassonne.

Nice game choices... I've seen other sites do couple games and it's nice to see some different ones here. My wife and I have recently been playing some co-op games like Pandemic and Castle Panic and fall back on a quick game of Blokus.

I definitely see your points about Tigris. In all honesty, the dynamic shifts to a degree that I think comparing a 3-4 player game to a 2 person game, is somewhat difficult to do - the experience and competition is dramatically different.

I think that we like it so much because it's relatively quick with 2 players, does scale fairly well for what you get out of a two player game, and does force us to think about multiple aspects of a given strategy that we execute solely against one another.

To each his / her own though.

I have to agree with nachof. T&E is a great game, but I just can't play it with 2 players.

Carcassonne (as already stated twice) is good for 2 players. My sister and her husband played Carcassonne on their first date and still play it to this day.

I would also recommend a personal favorite: Odin's Ravens. While I noticed the rest of the games in this list were scaled down to 2 players, I think it is also good to include some 2 player ONLY games.

My girlfriend isn't in to any games that are very complicated of take more than an hour.

We've had fun playing Carcassonne and Dominion. Race for the Galaxy is a good game but I don't tend to have as much fun playing 2 player instead of 3-4.

I don't agree with T&E being good for two players. Even though I really love the game, I just find it boring with two players.

With my girlfriend, the games we enjoy the most when it's just the two of us are: Carcassonne, Attika, and Twilight Struggle (in ascending order of complexity).
