Wooden Cubes & Iron Soldiers: “Kickstarter Sucks… or does it!?” Episode 9
“Kickstarter Sucks… or does it!?”
Welcome back for our ninth episode of Wooden Cubes & Iron Soldiers!
In this episode we focus on Kickstarter. We talk about the games, the process of getting a game “Kickstarted”, as well as the possible effects on the board game industry as a whole.
Before we get into the Kickstarter commentary, Lance and Joel both do a mini-review on two games they have played recently: Masters of Commerce and Lords of the Rings: Nazgul.
For this episode, I am not going to list all of the games that we have touched on. We cover many games that have been on Kickstarter over the past year or so, including a game I can’t remember the name of because it’s Kickstarter project failed.

There are a couple of reasons that a lot of games get a huge burst of funds at the end.
1. Is that people don’t budget that far in advance, so they make their pledge during the pay period that the project ends to ensure that it is covered.
2. Kickstarter allows you to set up reminders for projects that send you an email 48 hours before the project ends. I look at so many Kickstarters that I can’t possibly back them all. Setting reminders for everything that looks cool ensures that I get one last chance to look and decide if I am backing the project or not.
There are also the “me toos” and those that are bandwagon jumpers, (not to mention people who pledge once they can ensure that a stretch reward is met) but those in my experience are the 2 biggest reasons.
The Kickstarter game you fellas couldn’t remember was Katalyka. It succeeded in its funding but looking at the ‘updates’ things don’t seem to be going well… or going at all.
Good ‘cast.
Thanks for the feedback lindelos.
Ya. The Kickstarter updates are frightening… and relatively humorous as well.
