20 Questions With Rio Grande Games! A News Segment Where You Ask The Questions!

17 July 2012 18 Comments

It is impossible to mention Rio Grande Games without mentioning that they were responsible for turning a simple new game concept into a new way to play card games. Dominion entered the market 4 years ago with a new idea that has exploded into an absolute Juggernaut! Who could predict that play one card, buy one card, and then discard your hand, would turn into such a fantastic and elegant game play mechanic that would create a brand new genre?

Rio Grande Games is far from a one trick pony though. From gateway games such as Carcassonne, fantastic children’s games such as Kids of Carcassonne, and possibly one of my top 10 games of all time Race for the Galaxy Rio Grande Games has an absolutely fantastic stable of games.

Rio Grande Games isn’t resting on their laurels either, future releases include the highly anticipated Race for the Galaxy: Alien Artifacts, and Dominion: Dark Ages which is projected to arrive August 16th, 2012  at GenCon.

Now is the chance to ask YOUR questions! Rio Grande Games has kindly agreed to be our next guest for “20 Questions” where You the reader submit your questions, WE at 2D6.org gather the 20 most popular questions, and then we conduct the interview!

Interested in the new mechanics that will be introduced with the next Dominion expansion? Chomping at the bit to get Race For The Galaxy: Alien Artifacts into your hands?

SUBMIT YOUR QUESTIONS HERE!

Simply reply to this thread!

Who Knows There Might Even Be A Contest In The End.

Nothing is worse than Question and Answer sessions where the question you care about the most is never asked. We need YOU to submit your questions! You have until July 20th, then we will gather up the questions and contact Rio Grande Games for the interview!

Well, I follow Dominion news already as it’s a staple in our house for gaming. Knowing what the new mechanic will be is definitely a topic of interest. I’m more interested in what else is going on – the things that haven’t been in the news as much. What do you think is the most exciting thing coming up that hasn’t gotten enough attention?

Any plans to update the Rio Grande website and/or the online presence through social media outlets?

Is Alien Artifacts the last RFTG expansion, or the first in a new series of expansions. I seem to be getting conflicting reports.

    1. When will Alien Artifacts be released?

    2. Will the rulebook for Alien Artifacts be released online in advance? If so, when?

The “Dominion Big Box”, containing the base game, Prosperity, and Alchemy is available for purchase. Are there any plans to release more “big boxes” or compilations?

There has been some murmuring about how Alien Artifacts began its life as a stand alone RFTG-game and not an expansion. How true is this rumor, and if so, what made it push over into expansion-land?

I would really like to find out more about what Promo cards we might be able to see for Dominion in the near future. I’ve really enjoyed everything that’s been released so far, and I personally like the concept of cross-promotional cards (like Walled Village for Carcassonne, or Governor for Puerto Rico), and am curious to know if there is any plans for other cards like that, or “silly” game-changers like Black Market.

Q: Will Balloon Cup be re-themed?

Q: Really looking forward to Gladiators by Kevin Spak and Sam Liberty. I recently played the prototype and loved it. What about that game stands out to you?

Q: Gulo Gulo and Vikings—any chance for a reprints?

By the way, Rio Grande, thanks for being so generous at conventions. It’s noticed.

Due to the popularity and success of The Kids of Carcassonne, are there plans to release a similiar stand-alone version of Dominion?

What will the Hans im Gluck deal with Z-Man mean for RGG in the future? Will you simply wind down operations, or will you now allocate more resources to other ventures, like finding the next Dominion?

What are your plans for the Dominion line after the release of Dark Ages and Guilds?

    (1) Without asking about release dates (since I assume those won’t be published until close to a release date), are you able to say which company is working on producing an iOS version of Dominion?

    (2) Doubtful, but I feel obligated to ask, is there an Android version being worked on as well?

    thanks in advance

What is the typical publication process for new games (i.e. not imports). Does Rio Grande Games accept submissions or demo’s of new games at conventions? There isn’t any info on the website about this.

Oliver, you have to setup an appointment with Jay at a convention. That’s been how they’ve done it in the past. It’s a good question to ask in the interview though.

    1) We keep reading/hearing how Rio Grande Games is a one man show (being Jay of course). Are there any other RGG employees behind the scenes? What roles do they play?

    2) With all the HiG titles soon gone, are there any plans to expand the product line? As it is now, there seems to be nothing but Dominion and RFTG.

Since I’ve been asking Jay this same question for the past five years, and he keeps giving me the same answer (“It’s in the pipeline”), I’ll give it one more shot here.

When is El Caballero scheduled to be reprinted?
