Five Points!

Shipping in May 2013

Five PointsT is a game of struggle for political control of Manhattan in the
mid-19th Century. As the leader of a powerful political faction, you
manipulate gangs and influence politicians behind the scenes to seize
control. Effective use of your resources will gain influence, win elections
and control the destiny of New York, fail and you will be less than a
footnote to history.

Several tools lie at your disposal, if you have the strength to acquire and
use them. Your loyal rabble will execute your will. Controlling districts
with your rabble could give you access to a limited number of important
buildings, Tammany Hall, Board of Elections, 5th Ward Offices and many
others. Your control of these buildings may provide influence and special
powers. Bid for control of election-influencing manipulations that may swing
the vote.

In Manhattan, your burgeoning political machine may affect politics in
America's great city for over 100 years. At the heart of this machine are
the gangs of New York who enforce the will of the bosses and determine
elections before the first vote is cast.

Welcome to Five PointsT.

Interesting that this is announced right on the heels of the imminent release of the new edition of Tammany Hall. This will certainly put the Jones Theory to the test.

Are these two of the same types of games or just in theme?

TH is an area control game with a variant role selection mechanic and negotiation. The mechanics between the two games are probably different but from the short description of Five Points above, it sounds like the goals are fairly similar – gaining control of areas to obtain influence, win elections, and score VPs. Both games have Boss markers, Enforcer markers, and Influence tokens (these are Immigrant support chips in TH). Five Points sound like it has more specific area advantage bonuses than TH though.

I think what will do it for me is that Artwork on the board! Then I will take a closer look at both of them. Something about the name and Artwork so far has got me excited about it.

I’m just curious why this is titled “2D6 Exclusive first look!” when it is just a copy/paste of the text provided by the publisher and the box cover provided by the publisher, which is not at all exclusive to 2D6 but rather available at other boardgaming sites as well. I found this through a google search and got excited that there might be some new info here “exclusive” to this site, but sadly, it was a misleading article title and was just the same press release and cover I’ve seen elsewhere. And will make me less likely to click on similar titles that google search gives me in the future.

Sorry Johnny, When it went up it was the press release from Mayfair before they even had the box art! I found the box art which was posted the same day on the artist webpage when we posted the press release. BGG didn’t even have the artwork yet, and if you look they are using different artwork now. I actually asked the reps at Mayfair to send the artwork, but they didn’t cause it wasn’t released yet.

Granted everyone caught up several days later but at the time it was an exclusive view assembled from different sources no one else had!
