Star Trek: Attack Wing is a tactical space combat miniatures game that uses the Heroclix system and features prepainted ships from the Star Trek Universe.  Wizkids has licensed the FlightPath maneuver system from Fantasy Flight Games, to create a unique game of exploration and combat between all the well known (and even some less well known) star ships from the Star Trek Universe!

The latest issue of GTM magazine (06-20-2013) has a fantastic cover article talking about this exciting new release including the following release schedule:

Showing that Wizkids has a fantastic line up in store for fans of tactical combat games and fans of the Star Trek universe alike! Ships in Star Trek: Attack Wing will have their own unique captains, crew upgrades, the ability to divert power to other systems (a Star Trek cannon staple), multiple firing arcs, and even rules for epic 3 player battles! Of course no game in the Star Trek universe would be complete with Cloaking Devices and a storyline involving… The Dominion!

Star Trek Attack Wing 02

WizKids Games will release their new Star Trek: Attack Wing miniatures game at the GenCon gaming convention in Indianapolis, IN (August 15—18). To commemorate the release of Star Trek: Attack Wing, WizKids Games will offer attendees a limited promotional Captain Card of Khan Singh. This card and its corresponding game tokens will allow players to assign Khan Singh as the captain of one of their Star Trek: Attack Wing ships. This “Khan Exclusive” will be included with the purchase of Star Trek: Attack Wing products at the WizKids Games booth and will also be available as part of the prize package for players who participate in Star Trek: Attack Wing mini-tournaments being run throughout the convention. Did we fail to mention there are at least 4 factions ready to go…?

STAW Khan Singh Promo Card

That’s not all though, this September, WizKids will bring storyline based Organized Play to Star Trek: Attack Wing through a six-month event series centered on The Dominion War!  Every month, Star Trek: Attack Wing players will be recreating the major battles in the struggle between the Federation and the Dominion.

Participating stores will be offering competitive and participation prizes throughout the event. According to the GTM article “Each month, a new Resource will become available for players to add to their squad.  “Operation Return” will provide an ELITE ATTACK DIE as a participation prize.  This die provides the extra power that could mean the difference between victory and destruction.”

Stay tuned to 2D6.org for more information!

I’ve been looking forward to this for awhile. After buying the Star Wars X-Wing game that uses the same system I wanted Star Trek ships for it. I picked my starter set up today and I’m going to play over the weekend. I’m just hoping my store can get the prize packs. I didn’t know about the expansions but that is really cool news.

This game is GREAT. I actually find I like it a little better than X-Wing (which uses the same rules) for three reasons: one, you can customize your ships a bit more than in X-Wing (so you get less of them on average but they can be kitted out to more specifically match your playstyle), two, it isn’t impossible to get ahold of the expansion packs, and three, the organized play format is spectacular and a lot of fun.

Mind you, X-Wing is ALSO a great game. You really can’t go wrong with either. =)

My only gripe is that as a Dominion player in the organized play event, I only have two ships to work with, whereas the other factions have three each (and thus I only have two sets worth of crew/upgrades to use before I start duplicating, while the other factions have three). Over time, I expect this to no longer be a problem. Of course, I could use out of faction upgrades and crew, but I think that sort of defeats the point of “we’re better than you, don’t need your help, and are taking your quadrant!”

I agree they did a great job with the game and I am really looking forward to seeing more from the universe getting added in!
